Collection: Humidity Loving Plants

They are not just for terrariums!  It used to be people simply wanting to know what plant would  be happy in their bathroom or kitchen.  It's now all about what plant will thrive in a terrarium or vivarium.  And although these have been increasingly popular over the last few years,  you don't need to specialize in terrariums in order to keep these beautiful plants  in your home.  Let's face it, humidity loving plants make up so much of the plant population we see here in our homes every day.  Typically coming from tropical and sub tropical rainforests they have surprisingly, managed to fit into our homes quite comfortably, with very little effort.   And if our modern day heating methods are guilty of drying out the air a little then there a few simple steps we can take in order to balance things out.

Here are a  few simple tips to enhance the humidity in your home, it's so easy to do and the beautiful selection of plants that this will allow you to keep makes it so worth the little effort it takes.

1) Ideally, place your humidity loving plants in a bathroom or kitchen.   This way, you'll rarely need to intervene.

2) My favourite; as it definitely works!  Stand your humidity loving plants on a tray of pebbles with a little water.

3)  Group plants together.  The moisture they omit creates their very own humid micro-climate.

4) To mist or not to mist?  Now, the jury is out with this.  I'm not convinced my plants ever benefit from this and actually, if you live in a hard water area the markings left on the leaf from the water are unsightly.  So I tend to avoid misting now and stick to the pebbles in a tray method.
