Aeschynanthus
The Aeschynanthus (Lipstick Plant) is a relatively easy plant to care for.
Preferring a warm and moist environment with bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged periods of direct sunlight as this will scorch the leaves, however, a lack of light will cause the leaves to drop.
Water regularly but ensure the water completely drains away each time. Like many tropical houseplants, the Aeschynanthus does not want its roots sitting in water as this will cause the roots to rot. You may reduce the watering considerably in the winter months. It is suggested that you repot your Aeschynanthus every two years. However, these plants have the most beautiful flower and are far more likely to bloom if a little pot bound. The consequences of skipping a year will not prove particularly detrimental to the plant, in fact, it would be far more detrimental to repot and potentially risk transplant shock or root rot.
Common pests that may be attracted to your Aeschynanthus include spider mite, thrips, scale, whitefly and mealybugs.
