Commonly named the Zebra Plant. Native to the Atlantic Forest vegetation of Brazil.
This unusual tropical delight features long ovate, dark green leaves with what can only be described as a liberal coat of whitewash giving each leaf a 'zebra-like' appearance. These wonderful houseplants are rarely seen however their popularity is fast on the increase due to their ease of care and unusual appearance.
Preferring bright to indirect light. Avoid prolonged periods of direct sunlight as this will scorch the leaves. However, an hour or two of morning sun will be fine! Ensure the soil is evenly moist, allowing the top third of the soil to dry out between watering. Best suited to well-drained, acidic soil with sufficient aeration and water retaining qualities. The Aphelandra is a rainforest plant and will therefore thrive in a humid environment.
