Commonly referred to as the Peacock Begonia. Native to the montane forests of peninsular Maylasia.
This highly prized Begonia is renowned for its spectacular shimmering, blue, metallic foliage! The pavonina is a rhizomatous Begonia with a clumping growth habit. When fully mature the Begonia pavonina will be between 20 cm-30 cm in height with leaves growing up to 15 cm in width. In order to really see the beauty the Begonia pavonina has to offer position your plant in low to medium, indirect light. The irridescence is most apparent when the light reflects of the leaf surface at a near parallel angle.
How to care for your Begonia pavonina!
Begonia pavonina prefers bright, indirect light, similar to what it would receive under the canopy of a rainforest. Remember, too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves.
The soil should be kept consistently moist but not waterlogged.
- High humidity is essential: Peacock begonias thrive in high humidity environments.
- Consider a humidity tray or humidifier: If the air is dry, you can increase humidity by placing the plant on a humidity tray filled with water and pebbles or by using a humidifier.
- Ideal temperature range: Begonia pavonina prefers temperatures between 20°C to 30°C
