Commonly referred to as the 'Troll' Begonia or the 'Fierce' Begonia. Ferox being the Latin translation of 'Ferocious'. Native to the Guangxi region of Southern China.
The Rex Ferox is an incredibly unique member of the typically beautiful Begonia family. Becoming increasingly popular with plant enthusiasts and collectors the Begonia Ferox takes 'unusual foliage' to another level.
The Ferox features dark green ovate leaves covered in protruding spikes or pointy cones which are called bullae. These wonderful spikes are a very dark red colour, almost appearing black. The underside of the leaf is a pinky red. Male flowers are pinky yellow, and the female flowers are a pinky white. As a monoecious plant both flowers will appear on the same plant!
The Begonia Ferox prefers bright, indirect light. Water when the top of the soil begins to dry out. Feed monthly during the growing season. Loves humidity!!
