Commonly referred to as Dumb Cane due to its sap*. Native to the tropical regions of Central and South America.
The Latin translation for the name maculata is spotted, blotched or patchy. This is clearly describing the unusual leaf markings of this striking plant.
The Dieffenbachia maculata is a very easy plant to care for, preferring bright, indirect sunlight and warm temperatures. This plant will be quite happy in low light, but this will slow the growth down. Be careful not to scorch the leaves with bright, prolonged periods of sunlight. Water when the plant begins to feel dry. This plant loves humidity and when fully mature can reach heights of 30 cm.
*Just note the sap can be toxic so keep away from children and pets. It's not deadly, it will just cause discomfort if swallowed.
