Opuntia microdesis 'Cristaat' in 8 cm pot

Scientific name; Opuntia cylindrica'cristata'.  Commonly referred to as the Crested Barrel Cactus.  Native to the arid and semi-arid regions of Mexico, Peru and the Andes.

 The Opuntia 'Cristaat' grows as a shrubby plant with flat, twisting stems which form unusual, shapely crests.  No two leaves are the same and some even take on an almost caricature appearance.

Although this cactus does not have spines like some may associate with a common cactus it does have very irritating tiny hairs so just be careful when handling.  These cacti thrive in bright, indirect sunlight and require minimal watering.  Almost no water at all in the winter months.
