The Tamarind plant is native to tropical Africa, particularly the dry regions. Once thought to be native to India due to its wide spread cultivation but this is a common misconception.
The Tamarind is a tropical tree renowned for it's feathery foliage and edible fruit. In its natural environment the Tamarind would grow as a large tree with lush green, feathery foliage. However, you are more likely to see this unusual speimen grown indoors as a high impact container plant or ma well manicured bonsai.
To care for a tamarind plant, ensure it gets plenty of bright, direct sunlight and maintain consistently moist soil. But always ensure sufficient drainage to prevent root rot. Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during its spring-to-fall growing season, and protect it from cold temperatures and drafts as it's a tropical plant. Regular pruning in late winter or early spring is necessary for shaping and maintaining tree health.
